Council sets the service

Service standard and budget

Council decides the service and funding framework. Fire Chief Shane Caskanette leads implementation.

Ask: Which recommendations are funded, who owns each deadline, and which risks come first?

Neighbours must agree

Automatic aid needs working agreements

Recommendation 11-3 concerns automatic aid with Woodstock, Ingersoll and Tillsonburg. The July 14 matrix marks it in progress on a two-to-four-year horizon.

Ask: What agreements and dispatch arrangements have actually been signed and put into operation?

Publish the results

Plans are not response-time results

A public update should show implementation, staffing, training and measured service outcomes.

Ask: What has changed for residents since Council received the plan?

Station symbols are schematic, not a coverage map. The reviewed plan and matrix do not establish a new automatic-aid agreement or a measured improvement in response times.

What the evidence establishes

The choices on the table

These are editorial alternatives to test, not attributed candidate promises.

Show the response improvement

Editorial option: Publish an understandable before-and-after coverage map and response-time measures when agreements change.

Fund and report a clear annual work list

Editorial option: For the next budget, name the actions, costs, milestones and accountable officers; explain any deferrals.

How we got here

  1. Council direction

    Council requests implementation priorities

The July report records Council’s direction to the Fire Chief after receiving the plan.

    FD-2026-003: fire plan implementation matrix
  2. Implementation planning

    Priority matrix presented

The matrix supplies timescales and progress labels; funding proposals still go through budget or Council reports.

Questions that still deserve an explanation

  • What agreements have been signed, and which areas would gain earlier backup?
  • What are response-time results by community, including daytime volunteer availability?
  • Which funded actions will be completed in 2027, and who will report progress?
